Staying active is perhaps the most effective therapy for treating cystic fibrosis. This isn’t rocket science. As Elle Woods once said in Legally Blonde, “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy.”
Because of that reason specifically… the Boomer Esiason Foundation is announcing today, my birthday, the start of the #MyFitCFLife contest, where one lucky winner (and a companion) will be selected for a trip to New York and entry into Boomer’s CF Run To Breathe race in Central Park, because nothing says “happy birthday Gunnar!” like telling people to run a race.
FYI…I hate running.
So here’s what you have to do. Send us a video, use #MyFitCFLife and tell us why you stay fit to beat CF. As an example, I would open the dramatic video on a frozen pond in northwestern Canada, then I would begin a voice over and say something along the lines of this, “While coaching, and playing, hockey is a blast – and shooting pucks at the kids I coach is a great time – that’s not the only reason I play. I live for the thrill of the game, and because I know it’s great for my CF.” I would then follow that up with a few corny puns, like “puck CF,” and then proceed to be inspirational as shit. That’s my formula for making a video, and now I’m inviting you to follow my lead on this, or be more creative and go your own way.
Seriously, send us some awesome videos – I can’t wait to see them – because then maybe, just maybe, we can meet at the CF Run to Breathe this July. And when I say meet, I mean stand five feet away from each other and awkwardly wave (because CF).
